Puma & Bobcat Sightings Map
While many people are confident they've seen a puma, not all of these sightings are accurate. The map below includes both confirmed and unverified puma sightings in the larger San Francisco Bay region (and beyond) since 2004.
Over time, this will help us evaluate problem areas, movement barriers for wildlife, and potential for human-puma conflict.

I reported this to the SM County Sheriff & Fish & Game. Not sure of date. Fresh Deer carcass on trail off Elm/George in Montara. All of the deer organs had been eaten/back half of deer was gone. Deers eyes had not glazed over yet so it was a very fresh kill. No blood on grass so it killed elsewhere, the remains were being carried to another location. I must have startled the lion and it dropped the remains. A neighbor told me that he had seen a Mtn. Lion crossing George by the creek at night when he comes home from work. I told the Sheriff about this and he knew the neighbor and was going to talk to him. It took over a week for Fish & Game to call me back, and he said that unless someone is attacked, they won't do anything about a Puma.

I wanted to report a sighting but with all of the useful information online there was no information on HOW to report a sighting. Hopefully you can get this information to the right people...The sighting was today 1/11/15 around 7am...Santa Cruz, it looked like a young cat, a little bigger than a Golden Retriever...It was walking on the side of the road and then darted into the forest...This was on Highland Ave, which borders UCSC and Wilder Ranch....The Cat actually ran into the forest that considered the top of Harvey West park...Anyways, just wanted to get the sighting documented somehow...Thanks Jenny

I spotted a mountain lion coming over a grassy knoll about 100-150 yards to my left as I walked east on the Bruce Lee trail about half a mile from the Mitchell Creek entrance to Mt. Diablo State Park. It clearly had a cat-like appearance and body movement and it was much larger than a bobcat. The lion appeared to be stalking a small fox which I had seconds before seen trotting away from it on the trail ahead of me into an open grassy area. The lion appeared to be poised to chase and attack the fox, but it then looked at me and changed its posture from aggressive to defensive by dropped its body low in the grass to avoid being seen by me. The lion's head remained visible and looked alternately towards the fox and me for a few seconds before disappearing back over the knoll not to be seen again.

El Sobrante ridge, at the juncture of the Manzanita Loop Trail and Sobrante Ridge Trail. Late afternoon, extremely misty from recent rains. My two 65 lb. dogs knew it was there minutes before we spotted it across the clearing and slightly uphill. I was able to get a photo, and the next day a picture of a very large paw print close by. The web link shows the footprint I found on the Manzanita Loop Trail within eyesight of the previous day's encounter

I observed a LARGE animal run in front of the headlights of a car about 100 feet in front of me, from one side of the road to the other in about 2 seconds flat. Believing it was a lion, I followed the car to the next intersection which was a red light. Pulling up along side, they lowered their window and confirmed it was a lion.
