Puma & Bobcat Sightings Map
While many people are confident they've seen a puma, not all of these sightings are accurate. The map below includes both confirmed and unverified puma sightings in the larger San Francisco Bay region (and beyond) since 2004.
Over time, this will help us evaluate problem areas, movement barriers for wildlife, and potential for human-puma conflict.

Frank encountered an adult mountain lion while hiking on dirt road on private property...the cat followed him for approximately 25 minutes at a distance of <30 feet the entire time, as Frank descended down creek to residence. Frank was loud, and had eye contact the entire time. Frank called wife on phone during encounter--duration of stalking verified. Four days later, adult mountain lion observed 10 a.m. a couple hundred yards from residence.

I work at UCSC as a Community Safety Officer. There was a report of a Mountain Loin killed a deer near Apartment building at Porter. We went to investigate. When we arrived we saw blood on a path leading to a group of trees. We looked with our flashlights and could see the Mountain Lion with the kill. We back out and set up a perimeter to keep people out. The Mountain Lion dragged the kill down into the nearby raven. I believe some students have some photos. Will try to locate.

Saw a junior puma trotting along the single-track Rock Spring road around 7:15am. We were running towards each other and both stopped when we saw each other. He then ran into the woods down the hillside. No mother seen, but he was quite young so perhaps she was also nearby.
