While many people are confident they've seen a puma, not all of these sightings are accurate. The map below includes both confirmed and unverified puma sightings in the larger San Francisco Bay region (and beyond) since 2004.
Over time, this will help us evaluate problem areas, movement barriers for wildlife, and potential for human-puma conflict.

Night sighting while hiking alone after summiting DIablo, brief spookey eyes glimpse with my headlamp looking up from the trail to investigate what really did sound like a really loud kitten/baby scream. Then it changed octaves to the full roar that wont be forgotten ever, apparently adult mountain lions can sound like baby's (a lure?) then switch to a roar at will.

"As soon as my headlights shone on it, I yelled out, 'That's a mountain lion,'" Iveland said. "Yeah, it was pretty crazy seeing it."
"That's when I realized that, 'Wow. That mountain lion is cruising up into some backyards.' That's when I got on the line to Animal Control," Iveland said. "Up close and personal in my truck is one thing but walking along the bike trail or mountain biking and seeing one would be totally different," Iveland said.

HALF MOON BAY (CBS SF) Three animals were killed by a mountain lion in San Mateo County where reported sightings of the big cat have increased in nearly two weeks, county officials said.The most recent sighting was on Friday night around 7:30 p.m., when deputies responded to a report of multiple mountain lion sightings in the 900 block of Miramontes Street in Half Moon Bay, county emergency officials said.

At bottom of our steep hill this morning, loud noises (frightening) and large figure in tree. When figure came running down from tree (still shrieking), appeared to be a mountain lion. We googled the sound and it sounded like female mating call? There is a large deer colony living on our hill. Reason for concern is that we are about 2 blocks from Glorietta Elementary school in Orinda.

A cougar killed our 175lb 11 year old healthy goat in a corral. 240 Sanborn Lane Felton Ca 95018. Some time between the evening of the 16th and afternoon 17th. A cougar also killed a goat next door on El Solyo Heights just a day earlier.

Killed 1 adult goat + 2 pygmies. One week earlier, another kill of 2 goats 3 miles away, and a week before that - another kill of 3 goats about 10 miles away. He did not eat his kill. Please contact me.

Found a deer carcass (see photo) that I think may have been a puma victim. It was off to the right of the Nisene Marks main road, after the steel bridge approx. 1/4 mile and between Aptos Creek and the fire road. a few more photos.

Sighted a puma with wildlife biologist Sue Townsend. We got a good, long look at it with binoculars. It saw us, then walked away north. Distinctive walk and long puma tail. We were on edge of Marin County Open Space preserve, it was on Lucas property. (I work for Marin County OSD) No pic unfortunately.
