Puma & Bobcat Sightings Map
While many people are confident they've seen a puma, not all of these sightings are accurate. The map below includes both confirmed and unverified puma sightings in the larger San Francisco Bay region (and beyond) since 2004.
Over time, this will help us evaluate problem areas, movement barriers for wildlife, and potential for human-puma conflict.

I was hunting for snakes with my 20 year old son (a favorite pastime of ours), so he has some experience nature watching in the area, spotted a mountain lion dart across the Muddy Hollow dirt road, just off the paved road to Limantour. His perception, from about 30 yards away, was that it was not very large, but bigger than a bobcat, but he distinctly saw the outline of the animal, its long tail that he described as almost being the length of the body, its feline movement, and its cat-like head. He was certain it was not a fox or bobcat. We visited the Pt Reyes Ranger Station after, where a ranger confirmed there are a few in the area, so he's confident that's what he saw.

We were driving up Sir Francis Drake just up from road from the Lighthouse and Chimney Rock area when we saw a large, golden-brown cat with a very long tail walking down the grassy slope on the east side of the road. The cat sat down and looked towards us, then continued walking down the slope towards a brush filled gully. There was a cow pasture and calf pens nearby. Got a photo, but not a good one.

This gorgeous animal was spotted on July 14th on Rosita Road in Pacifica "west of the dip" which I interpreted as close to San Pedro Valley Park. It would be great if you could put a camera in Pacifica!

A mountain lion cub- very thin and tattered- stood on the trail about 30ft away. Did not move but it hissed and began to move toward me. I yelled and waved my arms. It kept coming towards me so I picked up a rock and threw it near hte mountain lion cub. It continued to approach. I was worried that the mother might be nearby. I continued to yell, picked up a rock in each hand in case the mother was nearby and turned back down the trail, walking fast and making allot of noise. After a few minutes I began to run and ran most the way to the trail head. I've hiked this trail for more than thirty years and have never seen a mountain lion.
