Puma & Bobcat Sightings Map
While many people are confident they've seen a puma, not all of these sightings are accurate. The map below includes both confirmed and unverified puma sightings in the larger San Francisco Bay region (and beyond) since 2004.
Over time, this will help us evaluate problem areas, movement barriers for wildlife, and potential for human-puma conflict.

I was heading south on the Nimitz Way trail in Tilden park at almost exactly 5pm when I came around a bend and saw the outline of a mountain lion on the top of the hill. I would have doubted what I saw if it were not for the long tail in the air - much too big for a coyote or bobcat. It checked me out for a minute and then disappeared over the ridge.

Motion light went on outside. I looked out window and a medium sized mountain lion was there, sniffing around. It went around back to the deck, sniffed around some more then left - I think. Bonny Doon location.

This is the third time this lion has tripped my field cam. These three photos are the best due to the good lighting conditions. I would appreciate any approximate aging of the lion or any questions you may have. To protect the lion and my equipment the location of the pin mark is within 1/4 mi of the site. I'm not sure the photos are attached correctly. If not give me an e-mail address I can send them.

On 12/17 at 3am I saw an uncollared lion at very close range in my backyard (less than 20ft, I could smell it - I went back inside and watched for 45 minutes with a nightscope - WOW)
Also - you need a 2014 on your date pulldown.

About 1/4 mile west of the Hemme staging area, immediately west of the first metal gate, on the ringtail cat trail. To our right was a deer kill down in the dry creek bed. Taking a closer look it was very fresh, i.e. same day. Another 15 feet down the trail we could see where the Puma had dragged it down an embankment across the trail and into the creek. On the trail was fresh blood. Once again the deer, this time a buck, was lying on its back, legs spread, and meat eaten off the ribs with the entrails gone. We will have pictures soon.

We (two adults) heard the mountain lion jump away (about 30 ft initially) and saw it clearly go along the upper side (east) of the trail, cross the trail, and disappear towards the forested area. It seemed to be fully grown, and its gate sounded heavy. Uphill (north-east) was a large group of deer, out in the open. The time was about 5:15pm, right after sunset.

This pinpoint is approximate. Walking west on the madrone trail, about 2 miles west of the ringtail cat trail, our dog discovered just to the left and up a short embankment, a very fresh kill that was a doe. Her neck and head were still intact. Her ribs were bare and her internal organs were gone. She still had fur on her back. The remains were partially covered with dried branches. We have some pictures that we will send soon.

We saw a Puma, at first looking like a log, until it got up and walked off to the right toward the canyon. We were about 150 ft. west of the Puma on the Los Trampas Ridge Trail, heading north just past the cattle gate on the ridge. We just missed getting a picture, but we could see its long tail curving up with a ball at the end of it. It then dissapeared into the brush and trees of the canyon.

Watched a large adult mountain lion hunting gophers in a meadow at the intersection of Happy Valley and Bear Creek through binoculars from 200 yards. Proceeded to get closer via Bear Creek and was heard or spotted by the mountain lion which immediately fled by running by me on the other side of a barded wire fence at 20 yards. Amazing experience to get this close!

I heard a large animal jump on top of the roof above my apt. (single-story units), and a few minutes later, I heard a loud shuffling noise that didn't last long. My cat usually slept on top of the roof at night, and he vanished after I heard the noises on the roof.

Mid sized cub/yearling ran from E side of Skyline into southbound land in front of me. Ran in my lane about 50 feet, then darted to west side of Skyline, ran up roadside cut to about 10 feet high and continued running on bank alongside me before disappearing into brush. Gray/brown color, no stripes or spots. Markings were dark black ear tips and tail tuft. About size of medium dog. Not a bobcat.

A puma ran in front of my car this morning and up a hill on the other side of the road at 7:15 a.m. as I was driving from Guerneville on 116 toward Forestville. It was between 1-2 miles out of town. I saw it clearly and it was a dark tawny color. Definitely not a bobcat; it was large and slender and had a long tail.

I woke up at 2:30 am to look for my housecat outdoors. Instead, I shined a light on a mountain lion very close to the house. We live in a remote area in the Los Gatos mountains. Private road off of Bear Creek Rd near the intersection of Hwy 35
