Puma & Bobcat Sightings Map
While many people are confident they've seen a puma, not all of these sightings are accurate. The map below includes both confirmed and unverified puma sightings in the larger San Francisco Bay region (and beyond) since 2004.
Over time, this will help us evaluate problem areas, movement barriers for wildlife, and potential for human-puma conflict.

We were driving on a private road and came around the corner to see the cat in the road. It jumped up the bank and sat still watching us for a few minutes, about 20 ft. away.

Checked watering system at dawn and began pruning roses. Had an eerie feeling and turned around to see the hind quarters anof a 2 and a half to three foot tall grey brown furry animal with a foot and a half to two foo thin tail with a tuft of hair on the tip. The animal was fifteen feet away and moving away from me down one of my garden brick pathways. It was wet, having probably drunk in one of my fountains. Later, I found that one of my garden gates was open. A week later, a full grown puma was seen at dusk at the nearby Edgewood Reservoir. Several days afterward, a neighbor found a puma pawprint in his garden

Ran across Valley Drive from Park Lane about 75 feet in front of me (I was driving thankfully). It was the size of a large tan-coloured dog (75-85 lbs), but the tail was not a dog's and did not behave like a dog's tail (very long, curved like a cat's tail, darker tip). It was moving very fast, and I was not able to see it once it made it across the road.

The motion lights came on and I looked out the window expecting to see a deer grazing on the hillside. It was very dark but for a few seconds I saw the back side and thick tale of a light colored fur paused on the gate top. I could not see the front half of the animal. Deer, Quail, Skunk, Racoon and birds are often around here and trash cans were out for next day pick up. This is near the top of a ridge across the valley from Mt. Tamalpais State Park.

We were driving away from the parking lot at Pierce Point ranch and see the lion on the lawn less than 100 yards away. He was sauntering across the lawn for just a few minutes and then went back into the tall grass to the right. We watched him for about 5 minutes.

I did not see it. But handwritten signs were posted at each entrance of Belgatos Park warning of recent puma sighting. I encountered a state game warden, one of which was armed with a rifle, he reported a "human-mtn lion" encounter had occurred the night before and it was "under investigation" and he dodged all my probing questions.

I saw a puma 20' up a tree with a live fawn dangling from its mouth while the mother circled below, bleating and snorting. When the fawn died the puma went down the tree and disappeared. This was on the Horse Trail in Point Reyes National Seashore about 1 mile above the visitor center, 100 feet off the trail.

Large earls with tan puffs, snob tail. Seen at 4:07 PM on a sidewalk by my house, in moderate shade. Probably a mature cat, looks similar to a small but developed mountain lion. The video, which is less that 7 seconds, is available.

In my driveway, unquestionably a mountain lion. In my headlights looking around for a way to get away while I was stopped, then a couple minutes later in my backyard saw it with a flashlight. It went over the middle back yard fence into the very back yard where it could get back into the wild areas around my property.
Long tail, small head, beautiful fur. Maybe 50 lbs. Beautiful! In the morning there was a (wild and alive) turkey in my front yard near where I first startled the lion. I suspect I interrupted it's stalking of the turkey.

At 2.50pm the mountain lion was coming up the hill from Eastwood towards Erica Rd, as I was walking downhill. It was about 25ft away from me, stopped and looked at me. I backed off up the hill, and it continued walking up the hill. When I was out of sight, I didn't stop to see where it was going. It was about 2ft tall, and fairly light yellow so I would say a young animal.
