Puma & Bobcat Sightings Map
While many people are confident they've seen a puma, not all of these sightings are accurate. The map below includes both confirmed and unverified puma sightings in the larger San Francisco Bay region (and beyond) since 2004.
Over time, this will help us evaluate problem areas, movement barriers for wildlife, and potential for human-puma conflict.

The puma crossed the bridge on the paved road over "Creek B" in the Avalon housing area in Fremont. It loped across to the upstream creek bed. I knew it was a mountain lion from its size, light brown color and long curved tail. (We often see bobcats, and this cat was much larger.)

hiking from highway 1 on dipsea trail towards the steep ravine trail. animal came out of brush and sat on steps of the trail. sat there for about 1minute, i warned the hikers on the opposite side of him (they could not see him). we were yelling and making noise, eventually he got up and ran into the brush in the direction he is facing in the picture. he had a long tail and was huge. i confirmed my sighting with 2 rangers up at pantroll ranger station. ( this happened on Jan 16, 2014.)

This is 2014. The point is not exact. We were hiking the Rocky Ridge Loop Trail, down in the canyon heading N/W in watershed. There were many small creeks that were dry. We noticed many vultures in the trees ahead of us. Just below them was a creek, with running water. Partially submerged in the water was a two pronged buck, on his back, and except for a small amount of flesh in the spine, it was stripped clean. His legs and head were still intact. We took pictures and will send them soon. P.S. We just found out you existed and would have been in touch sooner. We are in process of doing a wildlife film to educate people of the importance of preserving wild animals. Our phone number is 415-647-0243. We would like to get involved in your project. Thank you.

At approximately 8:15am saw what appeared to be fully black mountain lion (which admittedly made me question the sighting, but it was much larger than my medium sized dog or a bobcat). Possibly a female or juvenile? Ignored me, my dog, and a few other passers by as we walked about 50-100 feet away.
Area has had mountain lion populations before and is frequented by deer, foxes, etc. with access to a seasonal creek.

Came up over a rise on Grizzly Peak Trail and saw a mountain lion ~30 ft away turning around and quickly walking away from me and my dog. No mistaking the long flowing tail.
Called EBRPD, and when two employees came to meet me on the trail, they reported finding a deer carcass earlier in the week. Soon signs were posted at the trailheads reporting "several mountain lion sightings in the area from Nov. 5-10"
