Puma & Bobcat Sightings Map
While many people are confident they've seen a puma, not all of these sightings are accurate. The map below includes both confirmed and unverified puma sightings in the larger San Francisco Bay region (and beyond) since 2004.
Over time, this will help us evaluate problem areas, movement barriers for wildlife, and potential for human-puma conflict.

Driving home around 10:45, saw something crouched in the ditch along side the road. When the animal turned and looked at me, based on its size, my first thought it was a bobcat. I happened to have a flashlight close by, threw the car in park, got out and lit him up with the light. He stood still about 2-3 seconds, ran about 20' and looked back standing still another 2-3 seconds. We were 80-100' away from each other. It was undoubtedly a juvenile lion, approx 50-70 lbs and super quick.

Big felid spotted in an open area from the road. The grass was dry and tall. In our opinion, larger (in particular, longer) than a bobcat, which we have seen before. We saw it, and decided to turn around in the road an go back to be sure of what we saw. We stopped the car. The animal was moving slowly, staying still for some seconds. Then started to run slowly to the forest. Total sighting time (since the first glace) was around 4 minutes, from a 300 ft distance. We would appreaciate hearing back with your opinion.

Saw what I presume to be a large cat. Bigger than bobcat, coloration matches mountain lion much more closely. BUT: I saw no tail, and it was 2pm. Animal was walking through an overgrown fenced field, appeared to be looking for prey but not actually hunting anything.
I have multiple pics and can email. I was on Sir Francis Drake looking south into the field where the pushpin is (San Geronimo Road was behind the animal).

Juvenile mountain lion squeezed through our fence into our yard while my husband was about to leave on his motorcycle. Looked at him, didn't care he was there and strutted past him and then back out our fence. We believe it's the same one we saw 2 months ago outside our fence as a small baby. We think it is actively living in the lot (large lot maybe 50-100 acres?) between Aztec Ridge, Maya, Forrester, and Tourney Rds. We are at 16371 Aztec Ridge in Los Gatos. The property behind is privately owned but I imagine you could get permission. My biggest concern is that he doesn't seem to be afraid of people. Not as big of an issue when he is little but I worry for him as he gets older.

Saw what appeared to be juvenile walking on street (approaching from east of area when walking dog from about 3 houses away). Cat noticed but proceeded to walk down hill between two houses. Similar sighting on Lisa about 1/4 mile away about 2 weeks ago, same time of day.

My wife and I were running/hiking in Las Trampas. We were coming down Las Trampas Ridge Trail and were coming around the bend the bend when we heard a loud growl followed by something jumping out of the bush away from us. I had noticed turkey vultures flying overhead shortly before the incident and thought there may have been something dead in the area. We did not see the lion and were about to attempt looking through the bushes.

I encountered a sub-adult mountain lion standing in the middle of Vineyard Trail, downslope from Plum Tree Trail. The lion had adult coloration: warm brown, unspotted fur and black markings on tail and muzzle; but was distinctly smaller than the two adults I have seen in the Mt. Tam area in the past 20 years.

Saw tail of mountain lion as it disappeared over the edge of trail - tail was straight up about 1 1/2 to 2 feet above the abundant weed growth and about the size of a fist in diameter. On Diamond View trail between Blackstone Ct. and the sedimentation pond - but very close to Blackstone.
