Puma & Bobcat Sightings Map
While many people are confident they've seen a puma, not all of these sightings are accurate. The map below includes both confirmed and unverified puma sightings in the larger San Francisco Bay region (and beyond) since 2004.
Over time, this will help us evaluate problem areas, movement barriers for wildlife, and potential for human-puma conflict.

I was driving towards Santa Cruz on Graham Hill right after Henry Cowell campgrounds and it crossed right in front of my car. It was definitely a mountain lion. It was coming from a neighborhood across the street and heading over towards the hiking trails.

I was driving down the M4 about a mile past the prison work camp heading into the Mendocino Mountains and I startled it sunbathing in the dirt road. It ran across the road and down the hill and stopped long enough for me to capture a short video on my phone. Contact me by email for video. Won't let me include it because of format.

I was running and saw a puma in the distance. It looked like a dog at first but then when I kept running and ran closer it was starring right at me. It looked like a slightly mature puma and ran into the woods once we locked eyes. I walked backwards slowly and started making loud noises to scare it away. After about 3 minutes of loud noises I continued to keep running and watched my surroundings. I didn't see it again but would be cautious later at night. Have a flashlight handy and a whistle.

I went out to our mulch hill and motion light went off. The mountain lion proceeded to walk the side of the building and beyond in full light, toward our farm equipment and then out toward our cow field. Our security cameras also caught him.

Mountain lion walked through yard, then into the brush. It started crouched for approximately 5-10 minutes & we thought it let back into the forest. About 20 minutes later, my husband watched it lunge & grab our cat about 30 feet from our house. He threw a ladder at it because that's all that was around. He thinks he hit it because it dropped our cat & we found our cat in the forest.

Mountain lion was attacking a deer running down the hill towards the road. The lion ran away when it saw me though not immediately (had to wave and make noise). The deer seems to be badly wounded, it started moving and limping away in about 15 mins or so after the attack. This happened on the Skyline to the Sea trail road right before the Alder Trail Camp.
