Puma & Bobcat Sightings Map
While many people are confident they've seen a puma, not all of these sightings are accurate. The map below includes both confirmed and unverified puma sightings in the larger San Francisco Bay region (and beyond) since 2004.
Over time, this will help us evaluate problem areas, movement barriers for wildlife, and potential for human-puma conflict.

I observed a mountain lion sitting in the bushes at the edge of Golf Course at Land's End, San Francisco, near the Eagle Point Lookout. It stood and began stalking something. It ran into the bushes when I yelled a warning to two other hikers. I reported the sighting to GGNRA Park Police at about 4:30 PM.

the puma ran within 20 feet of me while chasing four deer. He/she did not catch any of the deer. It was just before dusk on a hot and dry summer day.

I started my morning walk about 5:50am and walked to the end of Witt Road where it meets Crossrock Road. I noticed a bunny run up the street at an accelerated rate. I then notice an animal which I thought was a dog or coyote walk down the trail that hits Crossrock Road. I realized that the animal walked like a cat with long strides and distinctive look. I was about 30 yards away from the Puma. I stopped and walked backwards for a few houses until I was out of sight and ran to my home. Along the way, I told one of my neighbors whom was walking his three dogs, to avoid that area.

Young, small mountain lion crossed the Martin Canyon Creek Trail while I was running. Did not look aggressive nor shy. Stopped and sit in the shade to observe me. Did not try to follow me.

Was driving on the road and I thought I saw a something moving about 50 yards in front of me. When the object got close to the side of the road My headlights light up of two eyes and I was able to see the pace that it was moving. The eyes where about 1-2 ft taller then a coyote and the pace that it was moving was about the prance of a mountain lion. I am pretty sure it was one.

We found a deer in our front yard with a hole in the middle of its body and all of its organs removed. The stomach was on the ground next to the animal. There were also little clumps of hair next to the animal. We live right on West Blithedale (next to the Catholic Church), so very close to downtown!

We were hiking on east blithedale ridge trail just below the east peak summit of mt. Tam. It was about 10:10am. We left from Corte madera and were at mile 6.3 when we encountered the mountain lion. Big cat with a j shaped tail that was black at the tip. He/she crossed the path from the above ridge and right onto the hiking path, looked at me and I stopped dead in my tracks to think and it walked a couple of paces toward me and I shouted to my son and then it turned and entered the brush in he lower ridge. It was a mountain lion versus bobcat as I've seen bobcat before and the prominence of its tail and face were all mt lion.

Not seeing a pushpin to poke into the map... it was across the San Lorenzo River - I could see it from my back deck (140 Azalea Circle, Boulder Creek) --- looked like a small animal (40-60lbs), climbing up the hill just aside from the neighbor's yard (northward). Our home is right above the river... literally a stone's throw away. Figure it must be a juvenile exploring.
