Puma & Bobcat Sightings Map
While many people are confident they've seen a puma, not all of these sightings are accurate. The map below includes both confirmed and unverified puma sightings in the larger San Francisco Bay region (and beyond) since 2004.
Over time, this will help us evaluate problem areas, movement barriers for wildlife, and potential for human-puma conflict.

We live very close to the river, as shown. Tonight we suddenly heard what sounded like a woman's very loud hoarse scream. We heard it about 12 - 15 times. We saw an animal run across the first row of trees (in the walnut orchard) next to the river, then it disappeared. We compared the sound to the sound of a mountain lion (on line) and it sounded identical. The only thing is, the animal was dark? Just want to put this out there in case others have seen or heard one as well.

back yard of 2119 banbury road on fence of Ruth Bancroft Garden.
Let 2 dogs out. Yard is bright w/ 4 flood lights. Heard cough, light large animal clearing throat from area of barn or shed in RBG. Cough repeated, louder and closer -- animal approached lights and dogs. Animal jumped atop 6' fence and its eyes "glowed" white in beam of my flashlight. Eyes were 3-5" apart. Very loud cough. Called dogs in, eyes and cough followed them along fence toward Wimbledon.

I was running up Fox Trail out of Tennessee Valley and at the intersection of Fox Trail and Coyote ridge say what I first thought was a fox or small bobcat in the trail. It was walking away from me and as I got closer I could see it had short tan fur with dark markings and a long tail held up in the air with a black tip. I've seen lots of bobcats and foxes and it was neither one of those. By the size, shape of the tale, and mottled dark markings over a tan coat I'm pretty sure it was a young mountain lion. By the time I got close enough to realize what it was (~75 feet) I decided it would be best to take my run in another direction! As I was leaving I could see it vanish into the scrub bushes on the side of the trail. No sign of a mother or siblings.

Mountain lion (Puma concolor) pauses to look at camera while carrying a fawn carcass upstream at 22:11, 33 minutes after carrying a fawn carcass (the same one? a new one?) past this exact spot. In between, there is an otherwise empty video that may contain the sound of a fawn's death cry.

Driving home around 10:45, saw something crouched in the ditch along side the road. When the animal turned and looked at me, based on its size, my first thought it was a bobcat. I happened to have a flashlight close by, threw the car in park, got out and lit him up with the light. He stood still about 2-3 seconds, ran about 20' and looked back standing still another 2-3 seconds. We were 80-100' away from each other. It was undoubtedly a juvenile lion, approx 50-70 lbs and super quick.

Big felid spotted in an open area from the road. The grass was dry and tall. In our opinion, larger (in particular, longer) than a bobcat, which we have seen before. We saw it, and decided to turn around in the road an go back to be sure of what we saw. We stopped the car. The animal was moving slowly, staying still for some seconds. Then started to run slowly to the forest. Total sighting time (since the first glace) was around 4 minutes, from a 300 ft distance. We would appreaciate hearing back with your opinion.

Saw what I presume to be a large cat. Bigger than bobcat, coloration matches mountain lion much more closely. BUT: I saw no tail, and it was 2pm. Animal was walking through an overgrown fenced field, appeared to be looking for prey but not actually hunting anything.
I have multiple pics and can email. I was on Sir Francis Drake looking south into the field where the pushpin is (San Geronimo Road was behind the animal).
