Puma & Bobcat Sightings Map
While many people are confident they've seen a puma, not all of these sightings are accurate. The map below includes both confirmed and unverified puma sightings in the larger San Francisco Bay region (and beyond) since 2004.
Over time, this will help us evaluate problem areas, movement barriers for wildlife, and potential for human-puma conflict.

I was just taking a night walk on a hill behind my home. We live in the outskirts of Jack London Park, Glen Ellen. Our neighborhood did not burn, but a lot of areas around us did. I looked up from the path and felt something watching me. I thought I saw a mountain lion about ten feet away in the dark, but told myself it was a tree stump. I quickly fumbled to turn on the flashlight on my cellphone. As I did so the mountain lion dashed into a nearby thicket. I shined my light that way and saw its glowing eyes watching me. I steadily retreated, walking backwards, shining my light in that direction. Now I am trying to find out whom I should notify. I feel very lucky to be unharmed. The poor thing was probably displaced by the recent fires. A lot of deer graze on that hill.

Mostly growling and eyes reflected in my headlamp. A deer ran through here an hour earlier, so maybe he was following it. It seems really unusual for a puma to come into a camp ground. He stayed near me for about an hour.

Was hiking solo early in the morning. There were two mountain lions on the ridge in front of me and did not seem to care I was there. They looked about the same size. I promptly turned around and left. They were about 100' off the trail.
