While many people are confident they've seen a puma, not all of these sightings are accurate. The map below includes both confirmed and unverified puma sightings in the larger San Francisco Bay region (and beyond) since 2004.
Over time, this will help us evaluate problem areas, movement barriers for wildlife, and potential for human-puma conflict.

I was driving my car up the road with my high beams on because there's always a lot of deer on this road. I'm driving pretty slow because sometimes the turns are sharp or you can't see around the corner well, and then I saw it in front of my car. I drove slowly forward so I wouldn't hit it, it zig-zagged away along the road and finally into the trees. I got a really good look at it but couldn't take a picture because I was driving.

Mountain Lion sighted near the trial at Santa Teresa foothills, intersection of Colleen and Gunter Way at 2:00 PM. There have been a few Mountain Lion sightings in the general area over the last few years. Never heard of any attacks.

Cougar sighted below our property in mid-afternoon by the guys installing our solar panel array. Based on the dogs behavior, we think the cougar strolled down Montebello Road past our place about 2:15 pm.

From a former neighbor's camera (I live three houses away). She may have submitted this at the time (she said she was doing volunteer work with you), but I don't see it on the map, so I thought I'd add it. She's since moved, but she sent me the image. It's what inspired us to get a camera, if I recall correctly.

I was running this morning along Wildcat Creek Trail from Tilden into Wildcat Canyon. Rounded a corner and saw what I believe was a mountain lion jump onto the trail about 25 meters ahead, then jump off the trail into the brush on the wooded creek side of the trail (presumably because it spotted me). I'd estimate about 2 feet tall at the shoulder, definitely feline face, and a very long, bushy tail. Not quite as large as I'd expect an adult puma to be, so maybe it was a juvenile. It was a very brief sighting, but jaw-dropping to me and I don't know what else it could have been with a tail like that -- I probably got a better look at the tail than any other part of it.

Driving north on Page Mill Rd at 2am, came up behind what looked like a full grown lion walking in the same direction on the right/east edge of the road. Only visible for a second or two before it turned off the right side of the road and into the woods.

Puma seen on the hillside in back of church located on Moraga Road and Sky Hy Drive. I parked on the side of the road to try and get a better look and take a video with my phone. I need a better camera!
