Puma & Bobcat Sightings Map
While many people are confident they've seen a puma, not all of these sightings are accurate. The map below includes both confirmed and unverified puma sightings in the larger San Francisco Bay region (and beyond) since 2004.
Over time, this will help us evaluate problem areas, movement barriers for wildlife, and potential for human-puma conflict.

Driving east on Hwy 84. Came around a right hand turn and the lion was on the embankment on the right hand side of the road. It turned and leapt up into the brush as my car approached.
Looked juvenile, possibly 40 lbs. I saw the full body and tail (dark tip) but did not see the head (behind brush)

I was riding my bike east from point Reyes to Petaluma on the point Reyes Petaluma road. The mountain lion was stalking in a field to our right by black mountain ranch. I took a photo but it was at a bit of a distance. That said there was no doubt that it was a mountain lion. It appeared to be stealthily moving as if it were stalking, but we did not observe an attempted kill.

On Sunday April 8, my wife and I had a close encounter with a Mt. Lion and her cub as we biked on a trail near Meadow Club Golf Course near Bolinas Rd in Fairfax - we immediately stopped when we saw a cub just some 40 feet ahead of us as we waited we saw Mom walk up (we could clearly see her long tail) as she climbed the hill ahead of us. We were headed back to the trailhead. Two cows (mother and calf) ~30 yards before the marked bush and another single adult cow ~ 30 past the bush and up the hill. As we approached the bush, ~ 20 yards before we got to the bush, an adult lion jumped out, crossed the road in two jumps and disappeared over the bank into the brush on the other side of the road. I looked over the embankment but did not see the lion again.
Not aggressive to us in any way.

Very very cloudy day in mt. tam - was on Panoramic Trail almost immediately across from St. Jude where I live. I spotted about 30 feet in front of me, on the the trail, the back of a mountain lion. I only saw it for 1 to 2 seconds at most and only shoulders and back of the animal. I've seen a puma in Costa rica, I've seen bob cats, foxes, coyotes. It couldn't have been any of these, it wasn't a dog. I say that because even at the distance of 30 feet, I could tell it had shoulders about as broad as mine, about a 3 foot torso. I didn't see the head, nor tail, but I'm confident it was a mountain lion as there are no other animals that size here. And I saw the color of it, which was a yellowish brown. I think it may not have been full grown, maybe a juvenile.

I was finishing up my ride along Nimitz Way, heading for the parking lot at 8:45 AM. A large animal ran across the path heading downhill. About 4 feet in length. Dark color. Round head. Big feet/paws. Not a dog or a coyote - Too 'tubular' looking. 6-8 inch tail that was like a thick, bush rope. The animal ran off downhill into the canyon. Think it was an immature mountain lion
