Puma & Bobcat Sightings Map
While many people are confident they've seen a puma, not all of these sightings are accurate. The map below includes both confirmed and unverified puma sightings in the larger San Francisco Bay region (and beyond) since 2004.
Over time, this will help us evaluate problem areas, movement barriers for wildlife, and potential for human-puma conflict.

Large cat hanging on the left side of the trail. Tip of tail was slightly darker. Hard to believe it would be at such a populated trail. Tweeted at Palo Alto police to see if anyone else saw it - guess not.

We picked up what looks like mountain lion scat in a planter bed alongside our house this afternoon.
There are also large deep indentations in the bed where I recently removed a plant and amended soil so it’s light and fluffy - will look more closely in daylight at those; may be paw prints.
Scat was in the bed and alongside it ~ we have the scat
I have seen scat on trails around the bay and checked it with photos and descriptions.

We are two blocks from Mc Laren Park in SF Portola District, not West Portal.

Saw what I initially thought was a bobcat on the trail, but its tail was too long for a bobcats. It potentially was a young mountain lion.

While hiking at Quail Hollow Ranch in Felton, CA, I saw a young fawn run across the trail. Next, I heard a loud exhaling/snorting sound. I noticed a doe standing alert, loudly exhaling from her nostrils about every 5 seconds, and stamping her hoof. Curious, I looked carefully and noticed a mountain lion turn and slowly creep away into the overgrowth. I barely got my phone out in time to catch it walking away if you watch the video below on HD/full-screen at about 1:26. The doe remained there about 5 minutes, snorting, before bounding off past me. This was very close to the ranch house and parking lot.

Lion had just killed a deer at the creek. We came down the trail parallel to the creek and spooked the lion, and it took off up the creek, right past us, giving us a perfect view of the golden body and thick, long tail. No doubt that it was a mountain lion. There was a fresh kill that it left, with blood in the creek.

A mountain lion walked across our deck, down the stairs, past my window and into the street this morning. It was about as long as a german shepherd dog, very compact in stature. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera nearby. Little River, CA, in The Woods Subdivision, 2 miles from HWY 1.

16lb Schipperke dog, 13 years old, killed by what we believe was a Mountain Lion in our backyard. His neck was broken and the fang marks around his head were wider than a coyote. There was no sound so it happened fast.
