While many people are confident they've seen a puma, not all of these sightings are accurate. The map below includes both confirmed and unverified puma sightings in the larger San Francisco Bay region (and beyond) since 2004.
Over time, this will help us evaluate problem areas, movement barriers for wildlife, and potential for human-puma conflict.

2018 03 06, 5:30am, pre-dawn darkness. Hiking with a head lamp from 4-Corners down the road to Muir Woods, I first saw a deer's eyes (then the deer) on the downhill side of the road. Turning uphill, my light caught two smaller glowing eyes, closer together, on the uphill ridge next to the road. I kept my eyes/light locked on it as I kept walking. As I passed, in the dim light I saw the rounded outline of its ear. Did not seem to o big, so I'm guessing juvenile. Pretty clear it was stalking the deer on the downhill side of the road. And, I walked right between them.

Two of my neighbor's sheep have been killed over a period of 4 days. Sonoma County Animal Control confirmed they were killed by a mountain lion after examimg the carcasses. Another neighbor 1 mile away caught the mountain lion on its nighttime webcam 4 days ago. This past October (before the fires), another neighbor's dog was attacked by a mountain lion, confirmed by the vet after measuring the bite marks.

The cougar was walking on a wildlife trail the animals have created just outside our vineyard fence. He was startled (possibly by dogs barking in the house) and this is seen on a 10-second video. This is the 6th visit since Christmas.

It started to walk out onto the road so I slowed down. I then backed up and drove 20 yds down the intersecting road and pulled out my flashlight and confirmed the ID. It looked to be an single, immature lion.

My wife and I were out walking our dog when we saw a large dark animal with a very long tail quickly dart across the road before jumping up and over a large snowbank (5-6ft) on the South side of the road.

I think I saw 2 mountain lion cubs while bicycling on Marshall-Petaluma Rd in Marin Co. The first was seated facing away from me and about 150' away. My first impression was that it might be a coyote, but when I called out to my cycling partner, it looked at me and laid down. It's movements, face, and ears were very definitely a cat - mostly brown but with dark markings on it and much too large to be a house cat (30lb maybe).
The second was across the road about 500 ft ahead and walking away from me. I could see slightly dark spotting towards its lower body and a dark band near the tip of its tail.

seen from about 40-50 yards, caught it moving just in the middle of the trail going up towards Table Top just before the cattle gate access. It stopped and stood still and we made eye contact for 10 or so seconds before I made the first move and it ran off the North east side. Definitely large size, dark honey brown back, shoulders, and rear. Lighter colors towards the paws, white markings under the chin, very distinct big puffy long tail, healthy coat of fur for the winter. It was in-between me and another hiker who I had seen going up the same path not more than a minute before as well.
