Puma & Bobcat Sightings Map
While many people are confident they've seen a puma, not all of these sightings are accurate. The map below includes both confirmed and unverified puma sightings in the larger San Francisco Bay region (and beyond) since 2004.
Over time, this will help us evaluate problem areas, movement barriers for wildlife, and potential for human-puma conflict.

Running in front of car when leaving in the morning. Slipped under gate of my neighbor (we think they are living on his property). To date we have seen the mother, father and 2 cubs. The cubs are about a year old. Several neighbors are setting up critter cams to see if we can catch them. We did not see any collars or tags.

Heard and then spotted what we believe was one or two mountain lions. Deep, guttural sounds and a higher pitched sound. Believed it was a mother and cub but could have been just one animal. I only saw one animal, It was in a redwood tree on a branch about 20-25 feet above the ground. It/they were scared by the neighbor's three barking dogs and trying to find an escape. Reported to authorities

I saw a mountain lion cross Hwy 34 around 3:45pm. The animal did a quick walk across the road, stopped on the shoulder and then jumped into the ditch once I passed it. I was able to get a good look because I had to slow down. If I didn't slow down, I could have hit it.

I was driving North on Highway 5 (passenger) and was looking at the scenery to my right (East). The mountain lion was running up the hill diagonally, heading northbound. It was just after 4:15pm. It's color was the same as the hillside and had it been still I wouldn't have seen it. The lion was quite large! I could easily compare it to the length of the cows I'd seen grazing just South of it's location. Beautiful animal!

On the evening of 8/23/17, we caught the attached photos on our trail camera. The camera has been in place for almost two years with a variety of coyote, bobcats, fox, deer, etc. This was the first photos that we have captured of a mountain lion. It was successful with a raccoon (IMG 0077) and we have not seen it since. It does not appear to have a tracking collar. Our property (998 Gold Ridge Rd. Sebastopol - Camera location, Latitude 38.383361 "“ Longitude -122.860873) backs up to an upper feeder section of the Atascadero Creek and we get a good variety of wildlife but this was a first. It could be that it was just passing through and the photos last showed it moving to the west through the vineyard.
