Puma & Bobcat Sightings Map
While many people are confident they've seen a puma, not all of these sightings are accurate. The map below includes both confirmed and unverified puma sightings in the larger San Francisco Bay region (and beyond) since 2004.
Over time, this will help us evaluate problem areas, movement barriers for wildlife, and potential for human-puma conflict.

Last Saturday the 19th, around 5:30 am I was near the corner of Blake and Navellier near one of our Hillside Nature areas. I was heading southwest on Blake when I spotted a large shadowy animal walking towards me on the sidewalk. As it was very dark with minimal street lighting, it was very difficult to see colors or detail. However, it felt large"¦ approximately 2 feet to the shoulders. As soon as we spotted each other, it did a 180 turn to walk quickly away from me on the sidewalk. After about 30-50 feet, it took a left to cross the street where it disappeared into someones yard. (the pin drop location is where it crossed to the other side of the street). When it crossed the street, I got to see a perfect profile of it. It walked quickly, but not at a run"¦ meaning the back was mostly straight and parallel to the ground with legs and feet moving quickly. It seemed about 3-4 feet long with a tail almost as long. The overall proportions felt similar to a cat, but really big. I've seen foxes and coyotes in this area, and it definitely was not either.

Friend and I saw two mountain lion cubs walk into the brush about from Wood Road Trail in Almaden Quicksilver County Park (about half a mile from the Wood Road Trail parking lot). At first, we thought they were bobcats, due to the size, but as they turned into the brush we clearly noticed that they had long tails with darker fur at the tips.
