Puma & Bobcat Sightings Map

Saw a smaller mountain lion come through yard about 8 minutes after a deer tripped my ring camera. Was siting in yard then got up and rounded corner down colegrove st. Much too big to be house cat.

Conservation easement monitoring for work, I hear loud scary screams, almost sound human but recognize it's a big feline. I assume it's a bobcat and observe the cattle on the property become alert. I walk down the hill and look over the to the fire road and see a medium size mountain lion sitting down watching the cattle on the hill. I quickly turn around and walk off the property.

Driving up my short road, a mountain lion was walking up the road in front of me with its back to me. When it saw my car lights, it turned to the right and went down the cliff. Definitely a cougar, its long huge tail unmistakable. Looked to be a juvenile (or female?) as it was not very large.

In Irish Beach residential area off Navarro Way. Observed what looked like adolescent through binoculars for about 20 minutes. Saw what appeared to be the same mountain lion in the same area around 1 p.m. (verified by binoculars) but the animal was moving quickly and sighting only lasted a few seconds.

The photo was captured on a trail camera on a tree at the entrance to the driveway. The mountain lion started to go down the road and then stopped and went by the left side of our house. We have video too from two other cameras.

Four mountain lions picked up on door camera

I just learned about the Bay Area Puma Project or else I would’ve reported this earlier.

About 3 pm on August 10, 2019, I went into my backyard and walked towards an 8 foot chain-link fence between my property and my neighbor’s property. When I was about 5 feet from the fence, I saw a puma just a few feet from the other side of the fence race up the back slope of their property toward the large open space behind our homes. We were less than 10 feet apart.

I didn’t get to see the head — I clearly startled it and it all happened so fast. By the time I saw it, the ivy on part of the fence had obscured my view of its head — but I saw the rest of the body and the large size, tawny color, short fur, and long sweeping tail down to the ground with the tip curved upward were unmistakably that of a puma. 

I was thrilled to have seen it and posted on NextDoor that evening. Someone commented that they had also recently seen one. I was curious if we lived in the same neighborhood, so I sent a private message to them. Lo and behold, it was that very neighbor! She had seen it on her property just a couple of days earlier — also in broad daylight! She said seeing it had frightened her so she ran into the house.

I live just 1.5 miles from the Lafayette Reservoir where pumas have been sighted. There is also a large open space of several acres on the hill behind our homes with many valley oak trees. I suspect this puma came over looking for prey. There are plenty of deer and wild turkeys at the reservoir, so perhaps a dominant male chased this one out. Territoriality? 

I have lived in this house for 25 years and the first 15-20 years, we had an overabundance of deer in the area. The slope in front of my house seemed to have been a deer trail. Deer would eat my plants, sleep in front of my house, and one year I saw a huge, five point buck stroll past my front door in the middle of the day. We also had an overabundance of wild turkeys. I haven’t seen a single deer for several years now and very few turkeys. I have often wondered if the reason for their dramatic decline is because of the presence of a puma.

Early Saturday morning a 2 point buck was found dead at our condo complex, freshly attacked and killed with part of the abdomen eaten out. It was moved next to our dumpster. Several neighbors looked at the body and said it was a cougar kill.

We are at 276 Anchor Court in Boulder Creek CA.

I was making coffee when a lion walked out from courtyard that kitchen opens up to. It walked from courtyard down the path to the barn.
