Puma & Bobcat Sightings Map
While many people are confident they've seen a puma, not all of these sightings are accurate. The map below includes both confirmed and unverified puma sightings in the larger San Francisco Bay region (and beyond) since 2004.
Over time, this will help us evaluate problem areas, movement barriers for wildlife, and potential for human-puma conflict.

I did not see it. But handwritten signs were posted at each entrance of Belgatos Park warning of recent puma sighting. I encountered a state game warden, one of which was armed with a rifle, he reported a "human-mtn lion" encounter had occurred the night before and it was "under investigation" and he dodged all my probing questions.

I saw a puma 20' up a tree with a live fawn dangling from its mouth while the mother circled below, bleating and snorting. When the fawn died the puma went down the tree and disappeared. This was on the Horse Trail in Point Reyes National Seashore about 1 mile above the visitor center, 100 feet off the trail.

Large earls with tan puffs, snob tail. Seen at 4:07 PM on a sidewalk by my house, in moderate shade. Probably a mature cat, looks similar to a small but developed mountain lion. The video, which is less that 7 seconds, is available.

In my driveway, unquestionably a mountain lion. In my headlights looking around for a way to get away while I was stopped, then a couple minutes later in my backyard saw it with a flashlight. It went over the middle back yard fence into the very back yard where it could get back into the wild areas around my property.
Long tail, small head, beautiful fur. Maybe 50 lbs. Beautiful! In the morning there was a (wild and alive) turkey in my front yard near where I first startled the lion. I suspect I interrupted it's stalking of the turkey.

At 2.50pm the mountain lion was coming up the hill from Eastwood towards Erica Rd, as I was walking downhill. It was about 25ft away from me, stopped and looked at me. I backed off up the hill, and it continued walking up the hill. When I was out of sight, I didn't stop to see where it was going. It was about 2ft tall, and fairly light yellow so I would say a young animal.

I live in a very remote area in the hills on Trinity Road in Glen Ellen, Sonoma County. Bought a night vision motion camera 2 weeks ago and have captured 2 sightings in just a few days on a trail about 500 yards from our house. I remain amazed how it stopped to mark the trail right in front of my camera. Check out the video on the link. Feel free to contact me.

Pogonip City Park, Santa Cruz. Saw 2 mtn lions off Spring Trail, near Spring street entrance. They were non aggressive, but using a very well used trail. Calmly walking around. I used an airhorn that I hike with, but they slowly walked away"¦ they didn't run which I found strange. They also showed no aggression towards the off leash dog with us. Border Collie/Shepherd mix. Not sure of their exact size, but one was clearly larger/broader than the other. They were both bigger than the dog we had"¦ by a lot. Because they didn't take off, we walked back the way we came and left 2 miles out in the other direction. It was myself and another 40 year old female and one dog.

Open space along Coyote Creek behind trailer park on Ogier Road, San Jose. My dog and I had a close encounter with a mountain lion today. I had thrown a ball to a little tree (about 100 yards away) and my dog went to retrieve it. As he was near the tree, I saw the cat sitting about 15 yards away from the tree. My dog never saw him. I tried taking pictures and my dog wanted another ball thrown. The lion just sat there watching us. So we just backed away! You can see the lion at the very end of the trail...not a very good photo.

I was night hiking above Deer Park School in Fairfax last March and I came across a deer carcass in the middle of the trail immediately adjacent to the school building. The deer looked as though it had been bitten in the neck and its stomach had been ripped open as if a mountain lion was preparing to feed. However, I came along with my dog and suspect the mountain lion abandoned the deer carcass before I could see it.

650 Acorn Dr, Boulder Creek CA 95006. I sighted a 60lb Cougar in my front yard. The animal did not have spots, was smallish, and I suspect it may have been a female, since it was not much bigger than a medium sized dog. I saw a collar from a distance and approached it about 8ft away and verified it had a tracking collar. This was reported to Fish & Game and the neighbors alerted. It was interrupted after killing the neighbor's cat.
