Puma & Bobcat Sightings Map
While many people are confident they've seen a puma, not all of these sightings are accurate. The map below includes both confirmed and unverified puma sightings in the larger San Francisco Bay region (and beyond) since 2004.
Over time, this will help us evaluate problem areas, movement barriers for wildlife, and potential for human-puma conflict.

This cat looked about half grown and crossed the path about 30 yards ahead of me on the Water Tank trail off Old Lucas Valley Rd. Unfortunately, it was gone before I was able to get a picture.

I saw a mountain lion in our yard last night at around 11:30 pm.
I heard a big commotion outside our bedroom, so I opened the window to see what was going on. I was expecting to see raccoons or a deer or even a coyote. Instead, I heard a loud and deep growl, then this huge animal ran away and leaped over the fence.
It was definitely a feline, because it jumped onto the fence, then propelled itself from the fence on its hind legs. It was a very cat-like jump. It was larger than a bobcat and had a very long tail.
Then for about 10-15 minutes after it jumped over our fence, I heard it in the back, growling and running around.
I tried shining a flashlight and all I was able to see for a quick second were green eyes reflecting the light, then it ran away.
The growl was actually very scary! It was deep and very rumbly. Not at all like a bobcat.

Two large cats jumped from the east side of the road (down the cliff) onto the road because me and a riding partner startled them with our conversation and headlights. It was the first day of day-light-savings and there was noticeably more wildlife on the road at 6:00am (time of sighting). It looked like a mother/cub, but hard to say as they immediately jumped westward down toward Matt Davis.

While walking south on Coast Trail and briefly on the Sculpted Beach spur, we saw large amounts of mountain lion scat and paw prints in dry mud. Later, we saw paw prints in fresh, wet mud on both the Coast and Sculpted Beach trails.

We didn't actually see the Puma only the kill of a doe in our yard. The kill was fresh as the carcass was cool but still plyable. Our property borders the Napa Creek and deer often bed down in our landscaping. The carcass was found next to the barrier fence that separates us from the creek.
On our property we also have two mules who have had a couple of instances of extreme agitation at night in the past nine months which made us wonder if there might be a big cat in the pasture.

a mountain lion crossed the road in front of my car just by Hilldebrand at 0430am headed up toward Con's. He or she stopped, at the side of the road and i rolled down the window and we just stared at each other! i forgot to turn on my headlights and was driving out of town with only my running lights - it crossed up from the creek perhaps out of the driveway to a house right there and headed toward la honda open space preserve grasshopper loop trail
