Puma & Bobcat Sightings Map
While many people are confident they've seen a puma, not all of these sightings are accurate. The map below includes both confirmed and unverified puma sightings in the larger San Francisco Bay region (and beyond) since 2004.
Over time, this will help us evaluate problem areas, movement barriers for wildlife, and potential for human-puma conflict.

I believe this was a mother with a kitten (a few months old ). It was dark and I didn’t get a good view of the larger one (assumption the mother). It was the kitten who I actually saw in clear view as it leaped out of some plants as if pouncing (either hunting or playing?). I saw this from our window in the house above and across the street, because immediately before I had been alerted by a neighbors security light flashing on in the vicinity the kitten had come from. As I followed the light and movement they leaped from the low vegetation and pounced then ran forward out of the light. I happened to be up and searching for my kitty who had escaped the night before, so my instinct was to run down there for some reason without thinking as fast as I could. But when I got there I saw two pairs of eyes looking at me from the dark corner where the kitten had run to. The second pair of eyes was from a much larger animal (but again, I was not able to see them at this point aside from the eyes), and when the large pair of eyes fixed in me and began moving towards me (the movement description that comes to mind would be “stalking,” it suddenly dawned on me that this could potentially be a mother mountain lion and that I should get out of there since she would clearly find me a danger to her baby. But I didn’t dare to turn, so with our eyes locked I walked backwards up the hillside/street as swiftly as I could do so while still walking, and then as soon as I got around the corner with the corner of our property between us I walked quickly to my door and got inside. By the time I was back up to the window where I first saw the kitten, they had disappeared into the dark of the hillside below (I’m assuming) because although I watched for about half an hour there was not another sign of any movement. Afterwards on discussion with my husband, I considered what I had seen. I actually had assumed this must be a bobcat because of the young one’s markings…not knowing that the kittens are in fact marked with spots/stripes, dark points. But I realized that the tail of course, which was so prominent, meant this could not be a bobcat. Furthermore, my thought that this could have been a large domestic cat leaping and pouncing were negated by the much larger companion that I encountered. Quite an unusual experience….

Bobcat crossed the bridge from Bridge Road onto Baywood Ave. (I was pushing a baby carriage at the time, or I would have gotten a photo while it was still on Bridge Road.)

Looks like a mother and two cubs.
Unfortunately the camera tripped late & only caught shoulder and back of mother. Cub eyes (2 pair) can be seen, and if contrast adjusted you can see their body shapes.
