Puma & Bobcat Sightings Map
While many people are confident they've seen a puma, not all of these sightings are accurate. The map below includes both confirmed and unverified puma sightings in the larger San Francisco Bay region (and beyond) since 2004.
Over time, this will help us evaluate problem areas, movement barriers for wildlife, and potential for human-puma conflict.

I saw what appeared to be a juvenile bobcat in our backyard—much smaller than a previous sighting last year. It was chasing a crow and proceeded to saunter around the yard, even scratching its claws on a tree at one point. It was awesome.

I was hiking on the Briones Mt Diablo trail about 1/2 mile down from the Ridge Top trail. I was heading back to Indian Creek trail and to my car parked near the school. It was about 5 pm. Up on the hillside about 10 feet off the trail I spotted a medium size animal with a long tail and brown color of a mt lion. It seemed to be pouncing on something small and the tail was twitching. It definitely was not a bobcat due to the longer tail. I did not see the front of the animal and it didn't turn toward me. I backed away and cut through Twin Ponds, to Rockspring trailhead.
I hike this park several times a month and have seen many coyotes-this did not look like one. It was a pretty well travelled section of trail with a lot of bikes out-seemed odd for it to be so close to the trail with so many people out.

Three recent 2025 sightings
Jan 24th - Location marked on your map. Picture taken while walking my dog on Mill Creek Road.
Jan 25th - Saw this or another bobcat the following day about one half mile further up the road. That one crossed the road quickly, so I wasn't able to get my camera out.
Mar 27th - Picture taken of this bobcat about 3/8 mile up the hill from the Jan 24th sighting.

Watched it walk the game trail behind the house maybe 15ft from back door, it did not care about being seen, almost as if it was strutting its stuff, caught it all on the ring camera when it briefly entered the light.

We saw what we think was a big cat heading towards the Felt Lake. We were walking along the Redtail Loop Trail in the Pearson Arastradero preserve. The animal was sandy coloured, large and moved like a big cat. Once it heard us it hid in some sandy scrub to the east of the lake.
