Puma & Bobcat Sightings Map
While many people are confident they've seen a puma, not all of these sightings are accurate. The map below includes both confirmed and unverified puma sightings in the larger San Francisco Bay region (and beyond) since 2004.
Over time, this will help us evaluate problem areas, movement barriers for wildlife, and potential for human-puma conflict.

While hiking with my dog I came across this deer carcass, the gut pile was partially covered with grass and soil. The carcass was about 20 yards from the gut pile. Most likely a mountain lion kill.

Saw this beauty walking along my fence at 3:30pm. I had never seen a bobcat in our neighborhood and I have lived here for 21 years. Was super happy to have my phone in hand. Please excuse the messy garden - we were working on a landscaping project.

Came across the road from the horse pasture down to the lake and made all kinds of strange vocalizations by the water. (I found a YouTube video which confirmed vocalizations of cougar.) It had a fair amount of white fur and appeared more grey than tan but we were quite a distance away. It was definitely a very large cat. Low slung belly, long low tail and softly padding feet.

I was walking on this trail with my dog, and for several minutes I saw my headlamp reflected in two eyes in a nearby tree. I assumed it was a treed raccoon / possum / feral cat, so I didn't pay it much notice. I continued on the trail right by this tree, and as I passed I looked at the eyes and could see they belonged to a mountain lion cub! I've never seen a mountain lion cub before so I am no expert, but I know it was not a possum, raccoon, rodent, feral cat, etc. It was slightly larger than a domestic cat, cream-colored, with large blue-ish eyes, a few stripes, rounded ears, and was quite fuzzy / furry.
I immediately left and did not stop to take a picture, as I did not want me or my dog to aggravate the cub or its mother. The cub was stationary, silent, clearly watching me, and seemed to be solo.
I reported the sighting to Fish & Wildlife. I went back a few days later and no sign of the cub, so hopefully its mom came back and it wasn't orphaned. I was surprised to see how close the cub was to the built environment -- right behind the softball field.
