Puma & Bobcat Sightings Map
While many people are confident they've seen a puma, not all of these sightings are accurate. The map below includes both confirmed and unverified puma sightings in the larger San Francisco Bay region (and beyond) since 2004.
Over time, this will help us evaluate problem areas, movement barriers for wildlife, and potential for human-puma conflict.

Walked down Novitiate trail to dead end. On the way back up I heard a hissing sound, then saw a deer cross the trail. Walked a little further up and a mountain lion with a long tail (not a bobcat) walked on the trail in front of me and stopped. It saw me, then scurried off up the trail and off to the left. I was on a dead end so could not turn around. I waited for 2 minutes, got my bear spray, put on a loud podcast (talking voice) and continued past. Pretty freaked out as this was a fairly large animal. I think the hissing sound must have been from the mountain lion, at first I thought it was the deer.

Ran in front of our car as we entered the parking lot for this very popular walking trail. Possibly hunting ground squirrels that are very common near the parking area, but odd to see it in broad daylight on a warm day at about 3pm - a peak time for people to be in the park. Have 30 second video, but can’t seem to upload due to size or MOV format.

The bobcat was calmly crossing the road within the community complex. The viewpoint was from the trail gate of the community. I thought it was a cat at first until I saw the short tail and spiky ears.

we were resting along the side Archery Fire Rd in Huddart Park. About 20-30 feet away, a bobcat walked across the road, stopped to look at me, and then moved along into the forest. It was probably about 15-20 pounds, maybe about 50% larger than our pet cat (who is large). Unfortunately, i didn't get a photo

Just off the beach hiking trail near the main campground area at Manchester State Beach at the end of Kinney Rd (specifically day use area) I saw an animal that was larger than a house cat. It was walking slowly and deliberately- not trotting like a coyote or dog and looked very calm and composed. It crossed the trail a few yards in front of me, then walked into some bushes near a facility located at the end of Kinney Rd. I didn’t get a clear view of the tail, but it did not appear to have the short bobbed tail of a bobcat. It was dusk, so light was limited, but the silhouette and behavior seemed feline- possibly a puma/mountain lion. Its behavior was calm, non-aggressive, did not run or seem startled. Was walking confidently, delicately & casually.
