Puma & Bobcat Sightings Map
While many people are confident they've seen a puma, not all of these sightings are accurate. The map below includes both confirmed and unverified puma sightings in the larger San Francisco Bay region (and beyond) since 2004.
Over time, this will help us evaluate problem areas, movement barriers for wildlife, and potential for human-puma conflict.

we were resting along the side Archery Fire Rd in Huddart Park. About 20-30 feet away, a bobcat walked across the road, stopped to look at me, and then moved along into the forest. It was probably about 15-20 pounds, maybe about 50% larger than our pet cat (who is large). Unfortunately, i didn't get a photo

Just off the beach hiking trail near the main campground area at Manchester State Beach at the end of Kinney Rd (specifically day use area) I saw an animal that was larger than a house cat. It was walking slowly and deliberately- not trotting like a coyote or dog and looked very calm and composed. It crossed the trail a few yards in front of me, then walked into some bushes near a facility located at the end of Kinney Rd. I didn’t get a clear view of the tail, but it did not appear to have the short bobbed tail of a bobcat. It was dusk, so light was limited, but the silhouette and behavior seemed feline- possibly a puma/mountain lion. Its behavior was calm, non-aggressive, did not run or seem startled. Was walking confidently, delicately & casually.

I hadn’t seen ever such a large cat except in the Zoo. He looked like a big lion cub, 1 color coat, not a very long tail, but a thick tail. He was crossing the street, I was on my bike back from Farmers Market.

Two bobcats, one larger one smaller, seen on security camera at 6:15 am showing creek next to house. After seeing them, I noticed that a squirrel had just been eaten in our front yard and I assume it was the bobcats which ate it.

Hiking on Sycamore near the bottom of the elevation and saw a brown flash on the trail ahead to a diagonal about 50-100 feet. The cougar stepped forward about 5 feet and paused to look at us, we got a good look at the tail and animal. It paused for about 5-10 seconds before walking in the opposite direction away from us.

I was jogging up the canyon road and the cat was just off to my left up the embankment. Both paused to check eachother out, then carried on with our days. Wonderful encounter! Also saw turkeys and deer in the area, in the direction the cat was headed.

There has been a family of foxes (1 mama, 2 babies) under our deck and in and around our yard since June. 5 (when we first saw the babies - I suspect they were born under the deck about a month before that??). Last night at 11:15pm I heard an awful sound and saw a mountail lion get one of the baby foxes. The mountain lion ran away when it saw me (I was inside). The baby fox was badly mamed and struggled on our deck before pulling itself off the deck into it's den under the deck. The mountail lion then returned and I watched it as it stalked the site. I never saw it retrieve the injured baby from under the deck. Mama fox returned about 30 minutes later and called out and prowled the area for about 3 hours - I am assuming trying to locate the other baby? I have lived in Marin since 1977 and have never seen a mountain lion - not even in open space. Absolutely stunned to see it in my fenced yard in Terra Linda.
