Puma & Bobcat Sightings Map

I was working out in my family room when I saw my smaller cat zoom past me with a fluffy tail outside. I went to the sliding glass door and before I opened it, I saw a bobcat chasing my cat. I ran outside, yelled at the bobcat, then he  jumped over my fence.  Subsequently, I saw that my smaller cat ran up a tree and jumped onto the roof.

As I looked around the house, I noticed that our larger cat was outside on the fence where the chase originated. As I went back outside, I saw the bobcat again on top of the fence across from my cat and as I yelled gain, he slowly ran up into the hills (we back up against open space). I have three different videos from Wyze Cams.  The first one showed the bobcat jump on the fence, walk across the top, then jump down (right before he chased the cat). Another camera showed the chase and me running outside scaring away the bobcat. The last one showed the bobcat after the chase, apparently circle back around and come back up onto the fence where he started.  He sat there for a bit, then my larger cat slowly climbed from the other side of the fence onto the same fence and stared down the bobcat. They stared at each other for about 10 seconds until the bobcat backed away about the same time as I came outside and yelled.

My assumption is that if he caught the smaller cat, he would have eaten the cat and killed him, even though the bobcat wasn't that big (slightly larger than our bigger cat). I would guess around 20 pounds, 25 pounds top since our larger cat is just under 15 pounds.

We have not seen this bobcat back in our yard since. It's worth noting that we saw coyotes running behind our wire/mesh fence just a week before.  We have had numerous sightings of coyotes, a couple of foxes in our yard and the bobcat was a first. I have not seen a cougar near our yard, but I have seen one on the Lafayette Reservoir Trail years ago.

 

I was driving around 1am and spotted the puma in a neighbors front yard, it got scared from my headlights and ran into another backyard.

Yellow-brown mottled coat; small pointy ears; thick, very long tail held in U-shape over the ground. Size comparable to a really big dog.

Initially thought it might have been a dog, but there was no one around.

Sighted near the Penitencia Creek trail footpath when approaching Mossdale Way from Beaver Creek Way by car. Retreated into vegetation.

Murder of crows loudly approached my location in forest.

They were following the bobcat. 

Bobcat in backyard

There is fenced hill in the backyard and it was sitting in sun on the hill and wandering about 10 feet from house. 

A rare case in which I was able to capture some phone camera footage too.

The first bobcat marks a bush, then walks around our yard. Two hours later a different bobcat picks up the scent and walks the same path. They look similar, but their markings are slightly different.

My son spotted it in our back yard. It then proceeded to jump on the fence and ran over to our neighbors back yard and into the green belt behind our houses. 

Startled an animal in the bushes right near the creek - it was way too big to be a rabbit or domestic house cat. It retreated into the thicket, then re-emerged almost immediately to continue hunting. A bobcat, maybe about 3 feet long. 

I thought I saw a bobcat. Big fluffy rear, cropped tail, pointed ears. Bigger than a house cat and pounced away very quickly. It was smaller than I thought they would be, so I am not 100% sure on the siting.  But I have a strong feeling it was. Curious if there are other sitings around the neighborhood. 

This mountain lion has been in our neighborhood for some time. Typically, it makes its rounds in the middle of the night closer to our neighbor's home. But this evening, it walked by our home at 7:50 pm.

My security camera captured a visit from a mountain lion on May 4, 2024, at 1:35 am. The mountain lion walked to the side of the house, then back around to the front. 

Seen while walking my dog.  Residents from further uphill told me they'd recently been seeing a bobcat with three young on a regular basis.  On May 24, I saw a young bobcat that was dead alongside Mill Creek in this same approximate spot.
