Puma & Bobcat Sightings Map
While many people are confident they've seen a puma, not all of these sightings are accurate. The map below includes both confirmed and unverified puma sightings in the larger San Francisco Bay region (and beyond) since 2004.
Over time, this will help us evaluate problem areas, movement barriers for wildlife, and potential for human-puma conflict.

I noticed the bobcat on the Tassajara Creek paved trail. It also noticed me but did not run. I followed it up the trail for a while. It eventually stopped on the trail in front of me. I kept my distance (15 feet) and watched for a few minutes as it focussed on a squirrel. It was not skittish about me at all. It eventually very casually walked off the side of the trail into the bushes where the squirrel went. I unfortunately did not have my phone with me to take a picture.

I was driving into work when I noticed an animal on the left side of the road.about to cross. It was about the same color as a deer so I thought it was a small deer at first. As it crossed the road ahead of me I noticed it had a tail with a black tip. Inthought that's a strange looking dog. As I watched it I realized it had a cat head. I could not believe what I had just seen. I reached the part of the road where it crossed at and it had already gone over the levee on the brightside of the road so it was no longer visible.

Yesterday I was mountain biking in the Mt. Diablo open space. I entered via Macedo Ranch to Fairy Lantern Trail to Stage Road. On Stage Rd between the green gate and the area with the streams there was a carcass of a large deer on the trail. The meat was done but the innards where in the middle of the trail still in tact. I assume it was a fresh kill from the night before as the carrion birds had not come for the remainders.
I did not see a Puma but I spend a lot of time in the park and I do not believe the Bobcats or Coyotes could be capable of taking down a deer. My assumption is it must have been a large cat.
I was tempted to take a photo but did not in case the animal was still nearby.

Walked off trail to see the view of area and we heard growling when we're almost to top of hill to the left of monkey face hill. There were two deer that where by us to the right. We didn't see a cat, but the low soft growl sounded aggressive and mean. When googling the sound the only result that came up was for mountain lion. We decided to turn around and proceed back to the vehicle while watching behind us.

POSSIBLE presence of mountain lion. Approached a bend in the scrub/forest on the return and heard a close, low rumble sound. NO VISUAL CONFIRMATION. Any slight advance forward on the trail led to a sound - total ~4 times. Made noise and shouted. Rumbling only ceased as two other adult hikers approached from the other direction.

I saw a mountain lion in our yard last night at around 11:30 pm.
I heard a big commotion outside our bedroom, so I opened the window to see what was going on. I was expecting to see raccoons or a deer or even a coyote. Instead, I heard a loud and deep growl, then this huge animal ran away and leaped over the fence.
It was definitely a feline, because it jumped onto the fence, then propelled itself from the fence on its hind legs. It was a very cat-like jump. It was larger than a bobcat and had a very long tail.
Then for about 10-15 minutes after it jumped over our fence, I heard it in the back, growling and running around.
I tried shining a flashlight and all I was able to see for a quick second were green eyes reflecting the light, then it ran away.
The growl was actually very scary! It was deep and very rumbly. Not at all like a bobcat.
