FIELD ACTIVITIES

The work of tracking, capturing and placing collars on mountain lions involves a great deal of protracted effort and groundwork, punctuated by adrenaline-pumping bursts of activity during actual captures. A variety of techniques are used for tracking, including analyzing tracks and other signs, placing deer carcasses for bait, and radio telemetry for cats already wearing collars. And when it comes to the actual capture, no matter which method is used - hounds, soft-catch snare or cage trap - the experience is always profound and inspiring.
